Alumni Updates

3/12/07: We will periodically be putting some alumni "where are they now" bios in this section - if you would like to be included, email Katie Gardner and let her know!

3/12/07:  CrisMarie Campbell '87:  CrisMarie has traveled down many different career paths since graduating from UW in 1987. A member of two collegiate national championship boats at UW, as well as a silver medalist in the Women’s Eight at the 1987 World Championships and member of the 1988 Olympic team, CrisMarie explored many different job possibilities until starting her own company with Susan Clarke in 2002.  CrisMarie has worked as a design engineer for Boeing, earned her MBA from the University of Washington and entered the business world at Arthur Anderson, and has also started her own consulting firm, Thrive!.

One thing CrisMarie has carried with her down each career path is something she developed as an athlete - her ability to effectively develop relationships within a team in order to achieve a common goal.  At Thrive!, CrisMarie works with leadership teams within companies on team building, communication, and creating strategic visions to achieve company goals.  She compares her work at Thrive! to her days as a rower at UW, when she recalls bringing her boatmates together on Ham & Egger days  in order to get the best possible race out of that particular group of athletes.

CrisMarie still keeps in contact with her teammates from the University of Washington.  According to CrisMarie, a group of them get together every few years to attend the VBC Dinner at the end of March.  CrisMarie enjoys these meetings with her former teammates, because even if they have not seen each other in months, they always pick up right where they left off.

3/12/07:  Mike Chait '00:  Mike was a freshman on the 1997 UW team that swept the IRA Championships, and a rower in the varsity boat for the following three years. After a successful rowing career at UW, he spent a few years working as a journalist in Seattle and New York until entering law school at USC in 2003.

The past year has been a busy one for Mike.  In 2006, he completed law school at USC, passed the California Bar Examination, and began practicing law at a firm in Los Angeles.  Along with these busy moves in his career, Mike was also married in August.  His wife, Tracy, works in public relations and marketing for fashion designers in Los Angeles.  Despite living all over the country since graduating from UW, Mike has maintained close friendships with his teammates from the UW rowing team.  In fact, two of his former teammates, Sean Mulligan and Steve Todd, were groomsmen in his wedding.

3/12/07:  Katie Gardner '05:  As a current student in the Graduate School of Education at the University of Washington, Katie Gardner is a member of the first class of the Masters program in Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership.  Before entering the IAL program, Gardner attended the University of Washington for her undergraduate education, where she graduated in 2005 with a bachelor’s  degree in Political Science.  While attending UW as an undergraduate, Gardner interned for several members of the UW Athletic Department.  Katie Gardner was also a member of the UW Rowing Team, where she helped the team to four consecutive top ten finishes at the NCAA Championships.  Upon graduating, Gardner, remained a member of the UW rowing team as a volunteer assistant coach for the Novice squad.  In the 2006-2007 season, Gardner will remain on staff with the UW Rowing Team as a graduate assistant coach.  Originally from Chico, CA, Gardner hopes to use her masters degree from the University of Washington to gain opportunities in which she can serve the interests of student-athletes in a leadership position in an intercollegiate athletic department.
